How to clean your Makeup Brushes

"I love washing my makeup brushes" says no person ever.

Let's admit it, we've all at some point skipped cleaning our brushes to use it just that one more time. We find it time- consuming, and hate to wait hours before using them again.

After all those days and nights of skincare, applying serums and everything your skin needs, washing off your makeup right before going to bed, would you really not wanna invest some minutes to clean your brushes?

Before we get into some tips and steps to clean your brushes, let's see why it's important to take good care of them.

Makeup often contains a lot of chemicals that may or may not be harmful for your skin if not removed. Not only do makeup brushes pick up these bacteria, but they also pick up all the dirt, grime and oil from your face and then deposit it back on your skin the next time you use them.

This can lead to breakouts, clogged pores, uneven skin or general skin irritation.

Cleaning your brushes once a week helps remove the leftover makeup and keeps your brushes bacteria-free.

Here are a few steps to add to your routine today!

Step 1: Take out the brushes you want to clean and pour some shampoo over it. You can also use baby shampoo/ face wash.

Tip:- Using alcohol based cleaning liquids is not recommended as it might harm the bristles and eventually your skin too.

Step 2:- Once you've applied your cleaning liquid, next swirl your unclean brushes on an uneven mat. Do it a couple of times back and forth and in circular motions to make sure all the bristles are clean.

Tip: If you don't have an uneven mat, use the palm of your hand to clean your brush. Follow the same procedure.

Step 3: Lastly, rinse your brushes well with lukewarm water/ tap water till the bristles look clean.

Tip:- Don't soak your brushes in water as it might loosen the glue and harm the grip of the handle.

Step 4: Let them dry on a flat surface and voila! you're ready to use them again.

Tip: Avoid letting them dry in the brush holder as it might lead to the glue dripping off. Store them in a closed dry space to avoid any dust or bacteria to settle in.

This is how you can take good care of your makeup brushes if you're using them on a regular basis. Make sure you clean them at least once a week.
